Read Proverbs 28
Consider Verse 7
Twice in this chapter the word companion is used to describe the danger of an evil association. – You may recall that 1 Corinthians 15:33 states that it is impossible to closely associate with the wrong crowd (religious Or irreligious) and not be corrupted by their influence.
in this verse:
1) Of a Subject We Should Consider –
“he that is a companion of riotous men”
Riotous men describes those
a) who incite or participate in rioting with the intent of disturbing the peace: it speaks of anarchism and sedition against authority.
b) also it can describe those who are given to depravity and reveling as did the prodigal son.
Is it any doubt that we are seeing this social dysfunction and spiritual defiance being fomented across America on a daily basis?
Sin of every stripe is being excused, embraced, encouraged, and enabled by those with a spirit of insubordination and insurrection.
However, Gods people are told to avoid such divisive conduct and not to make companions with those who do.
2) Take note as well: Of The Shame That It Creates –
“a companion of riotous men shameth his father”.
So identifying with riotous companions, humiliates and embarrasses ones father (whether that would be our earthly or eternal Father)!!!
So to bring honor to our Father this should be who we keep company with: (Psalm 119:63) Selah!
